apllication name: Website bamboozled

Avaible on:Baamboozle | Learning games for the classroom

Category: Web based

Relevance ⭐⭐

Baamboozle is a web-based quiz platform designed to be played in groups within a classroom setting. Unlike Kahoot or Quizizz, which usually require every student to have their own device, Baamboozle typically only requires one screen at the front of the class, placing a strong emphasis on social interaction.

Features for honing students' skills:

  • Grid Games: Displays hidden numbered boxes. Students choose a number and answer the question behind it, which helps practice "active recall" of previously taught material.

  • Power-Ups: Unique features like "Steal Points" or "Lose Points" hidden in the boxes. Indirectly, this engages students' psychological aspects and team strategy.

  • Image-Based Quizzes: Teachers can insert images to practice vocabulary building by asking students to describe what they see.

  • Custom Games: Teachers can create specific questions for grammar or reading comprehension.

Feedback ⭐⭐⭐⭐

On Baamboozle, specific feedback usually comes from the teacher, rather than being automatically generated by the system like in Stimuler AI.

  • Pro: Since answers are often given aloud, the teacher can immediately correct pronunciation or grammar on the spot.

  • Con: The system does not provide in-depth analytics regarding filler words or speech pace like an AI-based app would.

Thinking Skills ⭐⭐

The extent to which critical thinking is developed depends on the quality of the questions created by the teacher:

  • Lower Level: If the question is just "What is the English word for kucing?", critical thinking is not engaged.

  • Higher Level: If the teacher creates riddle-based questions, logic puzzles, or requires teams to choose a strategy (deciding when to take risks), then analytical skills are much more involved.

Ease for use ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This website is among the easiest to use.

  • For Students: They don't need to create an account or log in. They simply look at the front screen and participate.

  • For Teachers: Creating a quiz is very fast due to the simple interface, and there are thousands of pre-made quizzes by other teachers available for immediate use.

Engagement ⭐⭐⭐

Yes, it is very motivating. Because it follows a team-play format and includes elements of "luck" (from Power-Ups), even students with lower English proficiency don't feel pressured. They feel as though they are playing a game rather than taking a test, which usually boosts class participation significantly

Sharing ⭐⭐⭐

Saving: As a web-based platform, teachers can save favorite quizzes to their accounts. However, for students, there is no "personal account" feature to save learning progress because the game is designed for anonymous team play.

Sharing: Teachers can easily share quiz links with colleagues or provide the link to students so they can practice individually at home.

Accesbility and cost⭐⭐⭐

Since it is web-based (browser), Baamboozle can be accessed on any device with an internet connection, including Android, iOS, tablets, and laptops. However, it looks best on a large screen (projector) or a tablet, as the grid format is more comfortable to view on a wider display.

1. How to Use and Apply it in ELT?

Baamboozle is at its best when used for ice-breaking sessions or reviewing material before a test. It’s super simple: the teacher divides the class into teams, and we take turns picking numbers from the grid on the screen. Behind each number is a question we have to answer as a team. Since it’s web-based, we don't have to deal with the hassle of installing apps or creating individual accounts; just one screen at the front of the class is enough to get everyone involved.

Tutorial for use bamboozle website:

1. JOIN FOR FREE

2. Enter email address and create account

3. As a teacher you can acces 4 million of english games for student

4. Setting the scoring of the games for student achievement.

2. What is the Impact of it for ELT?

The biggest impact I’ve noticed is social interaction. In an English class, it’s easy to feel shy about speaking up alone. But because Baamboozle is a team format, we’re encouraged to discuss with our teammates: "Hey, what’s the English word for this again?" It makes the classroom atmosphere vibrant and relaxed, so we don't feel like we're being tested—we feel like we're just playing.

3. What are the Advantages of it?

The main highlight is definitely the Power-Ups. Sometimes we answer correctly, but suddenly our score gets deducted or "stolen" by the opposing team because they hit a lucky box. This element of surprise keeps us focused and excited until the very end. Plus, teachers can use images in the questions, which helps us learn new vocabulary in a visual way that isn't boring.

4. What are the Limitations or Weaknesses of it?

There are some limits, though, specifically the lack of automated feedback. Unlike AI apps, Baamboozle can’t automatically tell if our pronunciation is off. Everything still depends on the teacher being there to correct our answers. Also, since it’s played as a group, we don't get individual progress reports, making it hard to track personal improvement unless we take notes manually.

5. What Language Skills or Components is it Effective for?

This platform is a powerhouse for practicing Vocabulary and Grammar. It gets us used to "active recall"—quickly remembering the words and rules we've already studied. Additionally, because we have to answer questions verbally in front of our teammates, it naturally hones our Speaking skills, especially in terms of response time and confidence.
